ALMA L. ESCALANTE

by AMY from SAGINAW

My hero is my mom, Alma. She was born on March 30, in Mexico. Throughout her child and adult life, she did the best she could to take care of her family. Since she was the oldest child, she had to so most of the work around her house. She had to wash the laundry outside, even if it was cold or raining outside. She didn't have any shoes, so she had to wash the laundry barefoot. She had to do most of her chores around her house. By the way, she had eight brothers and sisters. They all lived with my grandmother and grandfather in a two bedroom house. As she grew older and started working, she bought more beds and furniture for her parents. Then she moved to the U.S. and got married to my dad. Then she had my brother, my sister, and me. She got divorced when I was about four years old, and since that day, she has done the best she could to take care of her family. Now she is happily married to my step-dad. We live in a house in Highland Station.

My mom is my hero because she has taught my brother, my sister and me to do the best we can to not only help ourselves, but to also help other people in need. She taught me to make the right decisions in my life. My mom is a big part of my life. Not only because she is my mom, but because she is also my friend.

I hope that when I grow up and have kids of my own,I can teach them the same thing my mom taught me. I could use what my mom has taught me to help other people. My mom has done the best she can to take care of us. That's why she is my Hero.
