Pierrette Trudel

by Stephanie from Joliette

My name is Stephanie T. My hero is my grandmother. She is my hero because of what she has lived through and what she is living with now.

My grandparents wanted were unable to have children so they adopted my godmother. After adopting her, they had eight children. One of her boys died in an accident. Years after his death my grandfather died of cancer.

After his death, my grandmother got Alzheimer's, so she went to stay in an apartment, but that did not work. She then went to live in a hospital. After awhile, she went to live in a center for old people. At first she stayed in the part for people who had Alzheimer's.

She fell down and almost broke her leg, but she had fun at the hospital. When a nurse entered the room, she would put the covers right under her eyes. When the nurse had her back turned, my grandmother would make a funny face. My mother would laugh at that moment.

My grandmother changed rooms when she came back to the center for old people. Now she is almost always in a wheelchair. The thing I really hate is that only two people in our family of eight go to see her. Maybe she doesn’t remember our names, but she knows how many we are and she knows that some of her children don’t go to see her.
