Madonna Ciccone

by Danielle from Montvale

Outgoing, outrageous, and confident come to mind when you think of the stylish, pop diva also known as Madonna. After producing, 7 albums and over 20 top ten singles, Madonna has accomplished more then any other pop sensation. She has won many awards for her unbelievable personality in her music and also for acting in several four star rated films. This pop princess has been around for over 10 years, and is still going strong today. It looks like nothing can stop this pop princess.

The sun was shining and the smell of flowers was in the air when a tiny girl was born on August 16, 1958, named Madonna Louise Ciccone. Her parents were eagerly surprised when their first girl popped into the world gleaming with joy. Madonna wasn’t the only Ciccone in the family. She had two older brothers. Two years after Madonna was born, her mom had another boy and two girls. Madonna was always surrounded by her family and together there were 8. She loved her mother and father very much, but in 1963, Madonna’s mother died of Breast Cancer at 30 years of age. Madonna was heart broken and took many years recovering from her tragic lose. “My mother’s death left me with a certain kind of loneliness, an incredible longing for something. If I hadn’t had that emptiness, I wouldn’t have been so driven,” says Madonna.

Madonna still had a very tight bond with her father. Madonna was the oldest girl in the house, so she acted as a mother to her siblings and took care of her father. About 3 years later, her father met a woman named Joan, and about 6 months later, they were married. Madonna was very upset when Joan moved in because she took her job of helping around the house away. Her siblings then looked more up to Joan then Madonna

In high school, Madonna was very interested in drama and singing. She was in many school plays and had the starring roles. Madonna also loved to dance. She enrolled in Christopher Flynn’s ballet school in Detroit. She wanted to be a singer and would do anything to be famous for it. Madonna was in a band called the “Breakfast Club” in 1980 as the drummer and soon to be lead singer. She was in the band for about 7 months. They never made it. She then decided to move on, and left the band to be a solo artist.

After a lot of hard work, in 1982, Mark Kamins, a DJ/producer, signed Madonna. She produced her first single “Everybody”. In 1983, she released her self-titled album, “Madonna” in September. It became a top ten album in the first 3 weeks of release. Madonna isn’t your regular old pop star. She had her own sense of style and it was like she was in her very own world. At first, many people didn’t accept her for her style and personality, but that didn’t stop her from doing what she loved to do. Madonna still produced many albums and had many tours. Over the years, people grew to love her. Before you knew it, she was the topic of conversation. Her records were sold out in every music store. People grew to love Madonna’s different personality. She won Grammy’s left and right, from Best Female Artist to Best Album of the year. Madonna has had many boyfriends and is now married to Guy Richie, the one man that stood out in her life. Today they have a daughter and a son.
