“Mother is the one we count on for the things that matter most of all.”-Katherine Butler Hathaway.

Heroes are people we hold close to our hearts. Their lives are filled with meaning and achievement. They stand out and want to be different. My hero is definitely someone different. She is not a movie star, writer, or anyone famous for that matter. She is the person I can always count on. She is my mom.

My mom is the best mom anyone could have. So many kids say this, but I truly mean it. Words really can't even begin to describe how wonderful she is. My mom sacrifices so much for me and my whole family. She is like my best friend. Most people don't really talk to their moms, or else they lie to them. I tell my mom everything. We have such a wonderful relationship of trust and nothing is worth messing that up.

These last few years have really been tough on my mom and my whole family. About a year ago we lost my grandmother. It was really tough to see her go. She meant a lot to all of us. A few years before, my step-dad left us. It really was a big eye-opener. People really don't appreciate what they have until it is gone. So many people are blessed with things they don't even take the time to be thankful for. Just like having their parents together and seeing them happy, or just having good health. They would only realize it when it is too late.

My mom, I know, has struggled a lot lately and all I want is for her to be happy. No matter what she is faced with, she always still puts my family and me before her feelings. She really is an amazing person. To me, she is everything anyone could ask for. Whenever something is wrong she can always help me through it. So many families struggle, I know from experience, but always try and make the best of everything, and realize it could even be worse. Life is hard, but feeling sorry for yourself only makes it harder. My mom helped me realize all of this.

I would love to grow up to be the kind of person my mom is. No matter what obstacles come at her, I know she will always overcome them. My mom really is the greatest person I have ever met. Someone who can go through what she has been through, and still keep their head up high. Someone who is thankful for what they do have is definitely a hero to me.
