"Do you still believe in God?!?" asked Dylan Klebold as he pointed a gun at Rachel.
"You know I do!"
"Then go be with him!"
These were some of the last words Rachel Scott exchanged with her killer before she died. Rachel Scott always dreamed of helping people and making a positive difference in the world. She often wrote in her journal about the way she looked at the world; she also wrote a lot of poems and countless letters to God and Jesus Christ about her feelings and the things she struggled with.
Rachel was born in August 5th 1981, in Lakewood, Colorado. She grew up as the middle child with three siblings, two older and one younger. At age eleven Rachel attended church for the first time when she went to visit her aunt, and that's when Rachel let Jesus and God into her heart for the first time. Since that day Rachel became closer to God and the idea and the dream of making a difference in the world became bigger and stronger. Rachel went to Columbine High School where one of the deadliest school shootings occurred in April 20th 1999. Rachel was very self-less and caring toward others, she stood up for the weak and helped the helpless and never gave up on herself or other people. She once said, "I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. People will never know how far a little kindness can go." (Rachel Scott) She didn't care about what people thought, what mattered to her was what was right to do not what was popular. She also wrote in her diary that "what is wrong is wrong even if everyone does it and what's right is right even if no one does it." (Rachel Scott) Rachel was very kind, more than ordinary, she gave like there was no end to her kindness and love , she cared like you were the most important person in the world, and she fought for other people's lives like as if she was fighting for her own life.
Rachel wasn't afraid to show others the right thing and didn't fear people making fun of her just because she does the right thing. Rachel talked about her beliefs to people quite alot. She would go and talk to the victims of the bullies when no one did and she would help them go through the tough times and never gave up on them.
Rachel had a strong faith in God and Jesus; when she was at school people made fun of her because she was a Christian and she was open about her beliefs. She was rejected by everyone at school because she was kind and left with no one to talk to at school. She chose Jesus over her "friends". She wrote in her journal that nothing will keep her away from her best friend ... Jesus. (Craig Scott) Rachel walked her talk, when she talked about what was right and what she believed in she would do it not just preach about it.
Rachel was aware that she was going to die soon; she knew that at age seventeen her life would end. As Rachel became more and more close to God she started seeing the future and hearing God's voice.
The same day before she was killed Rachel drew two eyes crying thirteen tears on a rose which was growing as the tears hit the rose and as the tears hit the rose they turned into blood drops. The eyes represented Rachel's eyes crying and the thirteen tear drops represented the thirteen people who were killed at Columbine High School shooting, and the rose represented the life that Rachel's death would bring to the world. On the back of her dresser Rachel also drew a picture when she was only twelve years old, it was an outline of her hands, and she wrote "these hands belong to Rachel Joy Scott and will someday touch millions of people's hearts". (Craig Scott)
Rachel is my hero because she knew the true meaning of life, she saved many of lives, and showed a lot of people the right thing. She sacrificed herself to allow us to live a better life.
