GABRIELLE GORMAN NEWS ROADS SENIOR TO BE HONORED AT THE 2015 MY HERO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

SANTA MONICA, CA - 11/12/15 - On November 21, 2015, The MY HERO International Film Festival will recognize filmmaker Gabrielle Gorman, a student at the prestigious New Roads School in Santa Monica. Gorman will be the Student Honoree at this year’s Festival.

Currently in her senior year of high school, she has produced several thought-provoking shorts including Bombingham, a previous winner at the 2014 MY HERO Film Festival. Her work has been selected to several film festivals.

Her entries to this year’s MY HERO Film Festival include A Warm Bath of Complacency, a look at the how social inertia prevents us from fighting for justice, and Dear America, an exploration of being a Black American

The MY HERO Project is delighted to highlight the work of this rising star whose work is artistic and true. She is a strong writer and director and her short films touch on very important issues of racism and self awareness.

Everyone is invited to come to the Festival Screenings on Friday, November 20 and the Multimedia Celebration of MY HERO’s 20th Anniversary on Saturday, November 21.

Screenings and Celebration will take place at the Moss Theater at The Herb Alpert Educational Village.

The Multimedia event on Saturday will feature a live performance by international reggae musician Pato Banton.

There will be award presentations for top winning films, including: 

  • The Ron Kovic Peace Prize by veteran and author Ron Kovic 
  • The Eldon Activist Award by Kathy Eldon 
  • The Relationships First Award by the Foundation for the Contemporary Family
Erin Gruwell, author and founder of The Freedom Writers Foundation, will also receive MY HERO’s 2015 Global Educator Award.
