Augustus Caesar was a great and powerful warrior. Rome won many battles and wars because of Augustus. Most of the people in Rome would do anything for him. Christopher Reeve once said, "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." That quote reminds me of Augustus Caesar because he was a weak kid who grew up to be the first emperor of Rome. He became a great and powerful leader.
Augustus Caesar had a rich and fulfilling life. He was born on September 23, 63 B.C. Most people think that his name was Augustus Caesar, but he did not get that name until 27 B.C. His real name was Octavian; that name was given to him by his father Gains Octavius. Octavian also had a sister named Octavia. Julius Caesar adopted Octavian and made him heir of Rome.
Most of the terrible events in Augustus Caesar's life made him what he was. In 44 B.C. Julius Caesar was assassinated. That happened when Augustus was in Illyrian, and once he heard about that he rushed back to Rome. Rome was in turmoil without Julius, but Augustus took over his adopted father's place as the ruler of Rome. His best friend and loyal chief, Mark Antony helped Augustus rule Rome. Augustus took the western part of Rome and Antony took the eastern part. When Antony's wife Fulvia died, Octavia married Antony. After a while, they broke up and Antony married the queen of Egypt, Cleopatra.
Augustus Caesar won destructive and bloody wars in his life time. After the marriage of Cleopatra and Antony, Augustus declared war on Egypt. Antony hated Augustus for doing this, so he left to help Cleopatra. It was a great battle and Augustus won, but Cleopatra and Antony escaped to the city of Alexandria. He found them again and declared another war. He won again and this time Antony and Cleopatra did not get away; they committed suicide. When Augustus got back to Rome, he celebrated a triumphant war. With his great strength and leadership it was an easy battle and victory for Rome.
This was a sad but hopeful time in Roman history. Once Augustus got home he grew ill and was not going to last much longer. He finally died at Nola, August 14, A.D. Though Augustus did have a son named Tiberius who took over the Empire once Augustus died. Tiberius brought success to Rome and surpassed his father Augustus. Rome grew more powerful and survived through this tough time. He must have been a great father to raise a son to that could surpass himself.
Heroes have many traits that make them heroes. Augustus Caesar was brave and often kind. He never gave up; he was strong in all of the wars and battles he was in. Though he was a tough emperor, he gave Rome another chance and it survived for many years. There were more traits like respect and dedication that made him a great emperor. Finally, Augustus was brave and an honorable leader and anyone would follow him in battle. Sometimes he could be mean, but people cared for him and respected him and that is why he was a hero.
