Anne Frank

“I soothe my conscience now with the thought that it is better for hard words to be on paper than that Mummy should carry them in her heart” is one of many quotes Anne Frank said. I think Anne Frank is a heroine because she had a lot of rough times during her life. She also showed courage and bravery in this terrible time in her life. Finally I think she is a heroine because she documented the feelings and could have gotten killed for that.

Anne Frank’s life in the beginning was normal. Anne Frank was born on June 12 1929 in Frankford Germany to Edith and Otto Frank. She had an older sister Margot. Anne did not have the best education. She only attended school until she was in 8th grade. She got home schooled only once in a while because they were busy being quiet. Other than school being hard it is hard to live with seven other people. It is also hard to go to the bathroom and to take a shower because to take a shower you have to find a private place.

Anne Frank accomplished many things during her life. When she escaped from her house she didn’t get caught. She also didn’t complain that she was leaving her toys, books and treasures. She was very optimistic even though she was sad and scared. She also did very little jobs like help her friend Peter Van Daan get beans upstairs to her hiding place the sack which weighed fifty pounds ripped open and the beans fell all down the stairs. This is a problem because the German solider could find out that they were hiding in the upstairs in the old warehouse. She also was a very good sharer. She shared a desk and a room with a stranger named Dussel.

Her book was published in 1947 into 60 different languages. Her father Otto Frank omitted ripping out several pages due to Anne’s not so good comments she made about her mother and other people in the hiding place. The Netherlands Institute for War Documentation looked through the diary and declared it genuine. In 1986 the company published a “massive critical edition of the diary.” The edition included the original diary, Anne’s edited version, and her father’s version; it also included essays about the Franks and the evidence for the diary authenticity. The Anne Frank foundation issued a “definitive edition” in 1991 it included about 30 percent more material than in the 1947 edition. In 1998, six new pages of the diary were relished. They were about critical comments about the Frank’s marriage and had been hidden from publication by Otto Frank. In 2003, the Netherlands Institute issued The Diary of Anne Frank: The Revised Critical Edition, which includes all three versions of the diary plus additional writings by Anne Frank, including and unfinished novel. The diary was made into a hit play that opened in New York City in 1955. A motion-picture version of the play was released in 1959.

Anne Frank overcame many problems during her life. One of the problems was her parents. They would not listen to her and always take the other person's side. I would not have blamed her for writing bad things about her parents and other people in the Secret Annex. She just wanted some fairness. Another problem was the Germans. They had a limited amount of food. They are always taking people away and shooting them. One night the Germans where up on till two in the morning shooting and throwing bombs. When she died she was in a concentration camp. She did not die from someone killing her or from the gas chambers; she died from a disease called typhus.

The last problem I will share with you is the problems that she had when she was in hiding. Anne had many rules when she was in the Secret Annex. She had to go to bed when everybody else did. She could never go outside or even out the door inside. She also had a problem with sharing a room with a boy. She also couldn’t get any privacy for taking a bath or a shower. Being quiet was really a struggle for her. Imagine staying home all day, bored, can't move a muscle. How hard could life get? As you can see Anne Frank over came many things during her life, but the worst problem of all was she was born Jewish during that time.

Anne Frank herself didn’t get many awards when she was alive. One award was getting her diary published in 1947. The diary has been published into 60 languages. It also was voted International Best Seller! The diary has been made into movies and plays. One play was performed at Toy Theater. Some awards where awarded to her after she died. On May 3, 1957 group including Otto Frank (Anne’s dad) made a group called the Anne Frank Foundation. On May 3, 1960 the Anne Frank house opened. "It contained all unfurnished so visitors can walk freely through the rooms, some personal relics of former occupants remain like a movie star poster glued to Anne wall and a section of wallpaper with the height where Otto Frank recorded the height of his growing daughters." There was also a map on the wall “where he recorded the advance of the Allied Forces, all protected behind Perspex sheets. The small room which was where Peter Van Dan stayed, a walkway connects the building to the place where they put the diary.

The Anne Frank house has become one of Amsterdam’s main tourist attractions. Elementary schools in Dallas, Texas, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania have school districts named after her. She didn’t get many awards because one she was in hiding, two she was not very popular when she lived and three she didn’t live a very long life; she died when she was only fourteen. Now you know Anne Frank didn’t win or get awarded many things, but the things she did were pretty remarkable.

If you read The Diary of Anne Frank you would agree with me that these traits go along with her. Anne Frank was brave, strong, and determined. I think she was brave because when she was going into hiding she didn’t get scared. She could have gotten killed. She was also happy and never cried, which was probably a great thing to do when her mother was so stressed. I also think she was strong. She promised her diary she would be strong and not cry. She also did not get mad at her mother because she wouldn’t listen to her. I think the diary is a good thing to have because she would have been all over the place crying. The last trait I think she has is determination. I think she is determined because she never gives up fighting for freedom! Anne Frank was strong, brave, and determined in her life.

In conclusion, Anne Frank died two month before the German’s surrendered in a Concentration Camp from a disease called Typhus. An important lesson that can be learned from reading this biography is that Anne Frank was a girl who endured a great deal of hardship in her life, but she never gave up. She was determined to do her best and make her parents proud. Most importantly, she never gave up the fight to be free!
