Audrey Hepburn |
When Audrey Hepburn first burst on the scene with her ballet flats, turtlenecks, and "boyish" haircut, Audrey wasn't a typical Hollywood beauty. In a time of blonde bombshells like Marilyn Monroe and Californian girls such as Lana Turner, Audrey Hepburn was about to revolutionize the sense of the beauty and the world of Hollywood. Her spunky attitude and her natural ability, in front of the camera, was something that would stay with the film industry forever.
"I never think of myself as an icon. What is in other people's head is not in my mind, I just do my thing."
Edda Kathleen van Heestra Hupburn Ruston, was born on May 4,1929, to a Dutch baroness and an Anglo-Irish buisnessman. Her father, being a Nazi sympathizer, walked out on his family 6 years later. Since Audrey's family was rumored to be of part-Jewish descent, Audrey and her family spent the "war years" under Nazi occupation. When Audrey was 15 her mother took her to London to become a ballerina at Marie Rambert's ballet school, where she started calling herself Audrey Hepburn. After failing as a ballerina, Audrey started a theatrical career. Her first leading role was in the Broadway production of Gigi. Audrey also became a fashion icon, becoming the muse for Hubert de Givenchy. She experienced two unsuccessful marriages before finding her "soul-mate", Robert Wolders. After 1988 her main role, however was an ambassador for Unicef (United Nations Relief). With her husband, she made 50 humanitarian trips in five years. In November of 1992, Audrey was diagnosed with cancer. She passed away at the age of 63 on January 20,1993.
"People even more than things have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone."

Audrey in Breakfast at Tiffany's |
Audrey Hepburn is a strong and positive hero for girls everywhere. She's my hero because we both took dance and she is an all around good person. She didn't let her failure at dance stop her, but only made her work harder. She shows us that beauty has no boundaries, and that no matter how many dark thick forests, you may enter, there is always a sunny meadow on the other side.
"Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, it's at the end of your arm, as you get older, remember you have another hand. The first is to help yourself, the second is to help others."
