Amelia Earhart

by Kristi from Largo

Amelia Earhart was born in Kansas on July 24, 1897. She lived with her parents until she was 3 but then she moved in with her grandmother to keep her company. Her parents lived only 50 miles away from where she lived and visited them over the summer. No one knows exactly when she died because she went on a mission to fly around the world but disappeared in 1937. They sent out a search party for her but she was never seen again.

During her lifetime Amelia Earhart achieved many goals. On October 22, 1922 Amelia Earhart set the women’s altitude record of 14,000 feet. First woman to fly across the Atlantic in 1928. In fall of 1929 she was elected as an official for National Aeronautic Association. Also in June 25, 1930 she set the speed record for 181.18 mph over a 3k course. She was the first person to fly from Hawaii to California in 1935.

Amelia Earhart is my hero because she showed many people that women can do anything men can do. Amelia Earhart is a very brave woman. She attempted to fly around the world and almost succeeded. She was 3/4 around the world but her plane gave out on her and she crashed.
