Albert Einstein

by Navin from Mountain House

Einstein was born in Germany in 1879 and died in the US. He was top student in his school. When he was five he was given a compass. It sparked an interest in science. He took violin lessons starting at the age of six, but he didn't like violin so he quit. Max Talmud introduced Einstein to science, mathematics, and philosophy by giving him books that taught him science, mathematics, philosophy.

Einstein's family had to move to Italy when he was fifteen because his father's business failed. Einstein had to stay back so he can attend school. Einstein did not follow the military rules at his school so they told him to leave. Einstein's parents gathered some money so that he can attend school in Switzerland. Then Einstein decided to try applying to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology but he failed the entrance examination.

Einstein graduated at seventeen. He revoked his German citizenship so that he did not have to do military service. He gained Swiss citizenship on February 21, 1901. After graduating he got a job at a patent office after searching for 2 years. He married married Mileva on January 6, 1903 but they divorced on February 14, 1919 after having 2 sons.On June 2 He married Elsa Löwenthal.

At 1917 the Mount Wilson Observatory reported that there was no gravitational redshift. In 1918 the Lick Observatory also saw no redshift and disproved Einstein's prediction. It seemed like all hope was lost but then a British team confirmed Einstein's prediction that there was gravitational redshift. This exciting break-through made Albert Einstein famous. Einstein got a Nobel Prize in physics in 1921. He gave the prize money to his wife. On April 17, 1955 Albert Einstein died. The cause of his death was internal bleeding.

Einstein is known for his Theory of Relativity. He also received a Nobel Prize in Physics, The Copley Medal, and The Max Planck Medal. He was given the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect. Some of Einstein's well known contributions include his special Theory of Relativity, his General Theory of Relativity, The Brownian motion, Mass-Energy Equivalence, Einstein Field Equations, The Unified Field Theory, Bose Einstein Statistics, The EPR Paradox... These contributions and many others made Einstein a great genius.

He is my true science hero as even though he did not get admission in some great institutes of that time, he used his creativity to develop the scientific theories of all time - The theory of Relativity. He struggled to be scientist and he was against German militarism and that shows that he had a great heart as much he had a great brain.
