ANNE

My hero is Anne Frank because she was such a young age when she went through the Holocaust. And she stood up for what she believed in. That is why she is my hero.

Anne Frank was born June 12, 1929. She was born in Germany. She died in early March 1945 at age 15 in the concentration camp. She was also Jewish. She and her family were victims of the Holocaust. She had a diary were she wrote her life story.

Anne Frank loved watching movies but the Jews were forbidden to go to movies, riding bikes, and they could only shop from 5-7. They had to be in their homes at 8:00pm. On January 8th 1941, they went to hiding in her dad's work rooms. The Frank family went into hiding with the Van Peles family Hermann (the Dad), Augusta (the Mom), and Peter (the only child). They hid for 2 years.

They were found and got sent to the concentration camp in August 4th 1944. August 7th more than 100,000 Jews had passed when they got to the Holocaust the men were separated from the woman and children. All children younger than 15 were sent to the gas chambers. Edith Frank was left behind and died of starvation. All the others got transported.

In March 1945 a typhus epidemic spread through the camp killing 17,000 prisoners. Later, people said Margot fell from her bunk and was killed by shock. A few days later Anne died. This was only a few weeks before the camp was let out. After that the camp was burned in an effort to prevent further spread of disease. Anne and Margot were buried in a mass grave. 5,000 Jews deported from the Netherlands between 1942 and 1944 only 5,000 survived .30, 000 Jews remained in the Netherlands. Otto Frank survived the concentration camp. Later he went back to Amsterdam. He tried to find his family and found out they all died.
