Andy Griffiths

by Britney from Brisbane

Andrew "Andy" Griffiths was born on the 3rd of September, 1961 in Melbourne, Australia, Andy is well known for his Australian comedy writing for children.

With a 1920's typewriter that Andy had bought at a school fete, he wrote his first published story when he was in grade eight. After graduating high school, Andy had formed several rock bands, which ended up breaking up. After which he decided to go back to school and earn a degree in education. He then began to be a high school English teacher during which he was also working as an editor and publisher of educational books.

Andy began writing stories again when he became a stay-at-home dad in the early 1990's. When Andy tried to get a book of short stories published, eight publishers rejected him! Andy however kept on trying and ended up writing humorous stories for children. He told a writer of a newspaper, "Before I began to write, I was an English teacher, and I noticed there was a total lack of funny books for kids... My aim was to update book humor and I didn’t see why it had to be any less entertaining than a video game or a movie.”

Andy Griffiths is popular for his "Just" series, his "Bum" trilogy, his "Schooling Around" series and other novels.
