Audrey Hepburn

by Kendahl from Cornelius

“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”

Audrey Hepburn is my hero. But she is not my hero for regular reasons. I want to be like her because she is an actress, a volunteer where help is needed, and even though she lived through some tough times she made it all the way to the top. I may not have lived through tough times but I want to be an actress, I love to help out wherever I can and I will succeed in anything i put my mind to. Audrey Hepburn is MY Hero!

Audrey Hepburn was born in Ixelles, Belgium on May 4th. She was named Audrey Kathleen Hepburn, and she was beautiful even as a baby. Her father was a wealthy English banker and her mother a Dutch baroness. When her parents divorced, Audrey found herself in London at an all girls private school with her mother. A while after her mother moved back to the Netherlands, and she went another private school. World War II began and Hitler's army took over the town Audrey and her mother were vacationing in. She struggled and worked as hard as she could to survive while suffering from the horrid diseases which were depression and malnutrition. Once the dreadful war ended she went to pursue her dream of becoming a dancer and received a scholarship to a ballet school in London. Later on in her young life she became a model, as a model she was what any model would live to be. She was perfectly skinny and graceful! She believed she had found a niche in her life but then the film producers started calling. She had been sighted by a producer and was signed to a part in the One-of-a-Kind Netherlands in 7 Lessen. In 1948, she appeared in Young Wives Tale as the part of Eve Lester. Audrey Hepburn had a small part so she didn't get much recognition. So, she headed off to America to see if her luck was any better there. It was! She began with the movie Roman Holiday. The film was a smashing success and she soon after won an Oscar for Best Actress. Her very first movie was what launched her career. From Breakfast at Tiffany's to Wait Until Dark, she did all different kinds of movies and was amazing in each in every one of them. Later in life Audrey married Dr. Andrea Dotti, an Italian psychiatrist. She continued acting for a while longer but retired while she was on the top of the business. She began a charity work and became the special ambassador of United Nations UNICEF in 1988. She of course was named in People's 50 Most Beautiful People in the world. Her last film was always in 1989. Unfortunately Audrey Hepburn left the world from cancer on January 20, 1993 in Tolochnaz, Switzerland. But she will always be remembered for her elegance and style. Audrey Hepburn did everything and more anyone could expect of a girl that grew up in a small town in Belgium.
