Andrew Lamotte

by V from Plainfield

"True role models are those who possess the qualities that we would like to have and those who have affected us in a way that makes us what to be better people."

“A role model is someone who not only treats a person as an equal but is honest, trusting, and most of all open-minded especially in today’s society” (“What it Takes to be a Role Model”). A hero is a person who is a good role model for those around him/her. My hero is my father; my father is my hero because he has always been there for me when times were rough. He also knows how to make me feel better about myself. My father is my hero because he taught me the skills of being a better person.

My hero is Andrew Lamotte Sr. He was born in the 1960's at Windham Hospital. He lived in Willimantic most of his life. He lived in a small house with his parents and four siblings. Andrew went to Windham High School. He took four major classes: math, science, social studies, and woodshop. He finished high school, to teach people to reach their goals. He was married once to Diane; they had their first child, Heather. A few years later they were divorced and then he found Jennifer and had three more beautiful children Victoria, Andrew, and Abigail. Andrew had a large family and had to instill values in his children; a role model's job is to take leadership and to set goals for the future.

Andrew Lamotte taught me how to be a calmer and better person. A role model is someone to encourage a person to think and use the power of his/her voice and not the strength of a fist. He taught me to use my words and not my anger. He also taught me to talk and not yell all the time. He is always there for me when I need someone to talk to, even for the oddest things. We talked about my school problems and even my relationships. He also taught me to always be there for my siblings when they need someone to talk to. “As a friend we look up to or learn things from each other” (“What it Takes to be a Role Model”).

“A hero is a role model which is those who possess the qualities that would like to have and those who have affected us in a way that makes us want to be better people” (“The Importance of a Role Model”). The reason my father is my hero is because he has always been there for me to show me right and wrong. He showed me that we can get through the worst of things, like when my mother left. There are many different sayings that my father taught me to develop my self-esteem like, make the right choice, or you can be what you want to be as long as you believe in yourself. Role models are there to increase a child’s self-esteem, and help them to build morals and positive values, teach children to set attainable goals, and provide direction in achieving their goals.
