Abraham Lincoln is one of the greatest hero's to ever walk this earth, because of what he did as president.  He lived a normal life with his family and friends until he decided to run for president.  The important people in his life were his father, sister, and later his wife (Abraham Lincoln).  There were many events that took place in his lifetime, but the most memorable ones included, becoming president, ending slavery and leading America in the Civil War.  All these events took place in America around the early 1860's (Abraham Lincoln).  A hero must possess Courage, Determination, and Reliability.  Determination is when a person is determined to do something and get it done, Courage is when you are not afraid and Reliability is when people know you will do the right things.  Abraham Lincoln posses Determination, Courage, and Reliability and because of these traits he is a great hero.

Throughout Abraham Lincoln's presidency and life, he accomplished many great things.  Most of those things required great determination, which he showed.  To start of Lincoln's career he ran for republican leader of Oregon where he lived at that time, against Douglas.  "He was determined that he not Douglas should be republican leader of his state and section" (Biography Reference Center).  Lincoln believed that he was best fit for the leader of his state.  Even though Lincoln believed he should win, Douglas beat him and won.  Lincoln was one of the top republicans running for president in the year of 1860, and it was proven.  "The Republican National Convention met and chose Lincoln as their candidate for president of the United States" (Gale Virtual Reference Library).  This shows that Abraham Lincoln was determined to become president no matter what.  Because of his determination to become president, he finally was elected to be leader of the United States. Abraham Lincoln was known as one of the greatest presidents in America due to this character trait.

Many of Lincoln's tasks that he dealt with needed courage, which he definitely expressed.  One of the first problems he faced was dealing with Fort Sumter and Fort Pickens.  "Finally Lincoln ordered the preparation of two relief expeditions, one for Fort Sumter and Fort Pickens" (Biography Reference Center).  Lincoln had lots of courage to send out relief expeditions to two very dangerous places.  And because of his great courage he defeated these two forts.  Lincoln decided that slavery went on long enough and chose to end it very soon.  "The proclamation called for the freeing of all slaves in territories still at war with the Union" (Gale Virtual Reference Library).  This proves Abraham Lincoln had a lot of courage when he sent the Emancipation Proclamation to free the slaves.  Freeing the slaves was one of the most memorable things he did as president.  Abraham Lincoln had many wonderful traits as president; one of those was courage, which he showed through difficult tasks, and problems he faced.

In order for Abraham Lincoln to be a good president he must show everyone that he is reliable.  When Lincoln was running for president he was supposed to win by a big margin.  "He won a clear and decisive majority in the electoral college" (Biography Reference Center).  This shows that Lincoln is reliable because he won almost all the votes from the Electoral College in 1860. Because of his proven reliability he was chosen as president of the United States.  As president Lincoln had many roles in the government and military.  "As president, he was head of all agencies in the government and also acted as commander in chief, or supreme commander of the armies" (Gale Virtual Reference Library).  If Lincoln was not reliable he would not have had so many roles in the government.  He proved he was reliable which is why he held so many positions.  Abraham Lincoln proved to the country that he was the right person to lead America because of his reliability.

Abraham Lincoln is a hero because he possesses Reliability, Determination and Courage.  Abraham Lincoln possesses determination because he was determined, to get every job that he was given, completed.  He also possesses courage because he is not afraid to do things that other presidents might not have done because it was too risky.  Lastly, he is very reliable because he proved to the country that throughout all the troubled times he was going to protect the country no matter what.  Abraham Lincoln inspires me in many ways.  If I were going to be the president of the United States one day, I would use the traits that Lincoln possessed.  The reason I would use those is because he proved to everyone that by using those traits he was a successful president.  Abraham Lincoln proved to be an inspiration throughout his whole life because of his great accomplishments as president.  A hero doesn't have to be a celebrity or a really good sports player, it can be just a normal person who excelled at being an inspiration and a true hero to everyone.
