Abraham Lincoln

by Garrit from Lincoln

Have you ever thought of going back in time when you had to wear fur coats made out of bear and sheep and all of the other animals. Make your own fire. And hunt for your own food. Well there is this guy who survived all of that stuff. His name is Abraham Lincoln.

When he was ten he got kicked in the head by a horse. Less than a year later he almost drowned in a rapidly rushing creek, until his dad pulled him out. He loved to read all kinds of books. He loved to do all kinds of farm stuff. He always had to chop down trees for the fire.

He went to school and when he graduated he was in the Black Hawk War. Abraham Lincoln spent eight years in the Illinois legislature.

Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves and gave the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. The president made Thanksgiving a national holiday.

Abraham Lincoln made the decision to fight to prevent the nation from splitting apart. He was a commander and chief during the Civil War.

Abraham Lincoln set an example of a strong character, leadership, and honesty. That’s why I chose him to be my hero!
