"Whenever I hear someone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally." ~Abraham Lincoln, speech, March 17th 1865.

From the time Abraham Lincoln was born, he hated slavery. Abe was Nancy and Thomas Lincoln's second child, born on February 12, 1809. His mom died of milk sickness when Abe was nine. Sarah stepped in and took care of Abraham, until their dad remarried Sarah Bush. Abraham grew close to his new mother, but upon turning 22, left the house to find a better life.

When Lincoln took office in 1860, no one knew that this president would change the lives of many. He was reelected in 1864, and in 1865, finally freed all slaves. The African- Americans were happy, but this amendment made others very mad.

The evening of April 14th, 1865, Abe and his wife were going to the theater to see "Our American Cousin." Along with them were some of Abe's co-workers. At the Ford Theater, John Wilkes Booth killed America's 16th president. Abe was buried alongside his son, who had years before.

Without our 16th president, life wouldn't be the same. A captain, a lawyer, a father, a son, a husband, and a great president, Abraham Lincoln accomplished more than what most people get the chance to.
