Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in Harden County, Kentucky. He was trying to help America and the world. He helped preserve the United States by leading the defeat of the secessionist Confederate States of America in the American Civil War and also introduced measures that resulted in the abolition of slavery. Abraham Lincoln didn't believe in slavery and wanted America to be one with each other. His actions were important because if he didn't do that, black people wouldn't have much freedom and there would be slaves, which isn't a good thing. America would not be one with each other either.

Abraham Lincoln served as the 16th president of the United States. He led the country through its greatest internal crisis, the American Civil War. This event he helped us through meets with my definition because he helped his country in a time of need, and that is in my definition. When Lincoln, an anti-slave person became president, eleven slave states in the South joined together to form the Confederate States of America. The North (the anti-slave side) and the South (slave side) ends of America went into war as Lincoln vowed to bring America together, with no slavery, which was doing the right thing. Over 600,000 Americans died. In the middle of the war Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all slaves within the Confederacy and changed the war from a battle to preserve the Union into a battle for freedom, which was saving slaves' lives and also doing the right thing for Abraham Lincoln's part. A week after the surrender of the Confederate forces, Lincoln was assassinated but Lincoln left the nation a more perfect Union and thereby earned the admiration of most Americans as the country's greatest President.

Abraham Lincoln has been against slavery since he was a child, and in his future, did everything he could to get rid of it. His doing this meets my definition because getting rid of slavery is helping people in a time of need and saving people's lives. Abraham Lincoln was the first president to get rid of slavery in almost everywhere in the U.S. He did not think slavery was right and knew what he had to do. Even though it caused war with the states that had slavery and wanted to keep it, it was worth it. He did speeches and got lots of people to agree with him that slavery needed to be demolished from everywhere. Doing this saved and freed slaves.

The people who liked slavery thought that Abraham Lincoln was not a hero. The people who liked slavery started war with the part of the U.S. that didn't like it. One guy, John Wilkes Booth, assassinated Abraham Lincoln a few weeks after the war. Abraham Lincoln couldn't avoid being assassinated because it was unexpected.

Heroes are people who are brave, strong, and smart, good willed, kind, respectful, selfless, and so much more. Abraham Lincoln shows a lot of these traits. Lincoln has helped free slaves and get rid of slavery. The quality in that was kindness and selflessness. He has also helped humanity by building the first steamboat for travel, led some expeditions, and has even run for president. These things have smarts, and bravery, the qualities of a hero. In this essay I will prove to you that Abraham Lincoln was a hero.
