Abraham Lincoln

by Christina from Shippensburg

Abraham Lincoln is my hero for so many reasons. He is brave, dedicated, and caring. Abraham Lincoln may not seem like a hero to some people but he is to me. Lincoln is a great leader. In fact, he was a leader during our country’s most dangerous time, the Civil War. However, he is a hero for more then just his role in the Civil War.

From 1861 to 1865 Abraham Lincoln was president of the United States. He led the union to win the Civil War. His leadership proved that he was not only loyal and brave, but he was also faithful and proud to be an American.

Lincoln awarded 160 acres to settlers who agreed to farm the land for five years. That was known as the Homestead Act in 1862. This shows his love of people and his desire to help them. On January 1, 1863 he issued the Emancipation Proclamation abolishing slavery in the states that rebelled against the United States. This was one of the first steps to abolish slavery in the United States. The Proclamation showed he was dedicated to his country and his people.

On April 14, 1865 John Wilkes Booth assassinated Lincoln in Ford’s theater. I think that Lincoln was a great president, and he had so many accomplishments that you can’t just pick out a few of his characteristics. He is most definitely one of the best heroes in the world because he has accomplished so much. He also wrote one of the most famous speeches called the Gettysburg Address.

Lincoln was a very caring person. He accomplish so many things and most of them were for the people in his country. One of them was that he also wrote one of the most famous speeches called the Gettysburg Address. This speech was designed to heal the wounds caused by the civil war and prepare the nation for the future.
