Abraham Lincoln

by Sean from Centennial

"The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time."

I personally think that everyone should have a hero. And if you don’t, a hero is a great person and they have many qualities like loyalty, determination, sacrifice, bravery and many more. One person that I think has these heroic qualities is my personal hero Abraham Lincoln. He is a very great person and there are many reasons why he’s my hero.

Everyone is, well of course, born and my hero was born in Hardin (Larue), Kentucky in a small log cabin. He was born on the date of February 12, 1809. Abraham Lincoln made many changes in the world and the biggest one was undoing slavery but I’ll get to that later. Honest Abe had a sibling, her name was Sarah, and a couple others died in infancy or when they were little. His mom’s name was Nancy Hanks L. and his dad’s name was Thomas L.

I’d have to say that Abraham Lincoln is a hero within because he thought that black people shouldn’t be slaves. Although Abe did once have a slave but then let him go. In 1840 he argued his first issue in front of the Supreme Court. And in 1860 he finally became president. In 1863 Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed slaves. And sadly in 1865 John Wilkes Booth had assassinated Mr. Abraham Lincoln and then Booth was trapped in a barn and got shot and killed.

So a great definition of a hero is all that Abraham Lincoln was, a determined man who wanted one thing, freedom for slaves. Abe was a great person and I think that he should be a lot of people’s hero because he made a great change in the world.
