My definition of a hero is someone who sticks up for what’s right and wrong. The person I am writing to you about is how an everyday person can be a hero. It can begin with a classmate sticking up for another classmate, or a war veteran to a policeman and even a fire fighter.
The hero I am writing to you about is Abraham Lincoln. What Abraham has done for this country is far more than anyone could have hoped for. He saved this country from being divided between the north and the south. He ended the Civil War and slavery. When Abraham was elected president in 1860, it was just a few months before the civil war started. He was the man with an idea to end slavery. He wrote the Emancipation Proclamation made in 1862 which freed slaves and asked to be soldiers for the war. War began when Confederates opened fire on Fort Sumter, South Carolina.
The heroic accomplishments Abraham Lincoln did during his presidency was ending slavery and keeping the north and the south from splitting apart I consider these accomplishments heroic because of the courage it took to change the country.
Without Abraham Lincoln’s courage to change all these laws we would have been a different country. He even died for these decisions and beliefs. In 1864 an actor named John Wilkes Booth planned to kidnap Abraham Lincoln. He changed his plans and shot the president in the head. I think without Abraham Lincoln this country would be a lot different than it is now.
The importance of today’s heroes is how much people and how precious life is. I think without heroes this world would be a different place.
