Do you know that Abraham Lincoln was one of the most famous presidents ever? He was so famous that somebody tried to dig up his body in the 1870's for lots of money.

Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States of America. Throughout his childhood he had a bad life. His family was so poor they could only afford three years of school for him and to make things worse, his mom died when he was just nine years old from milk poisoning.

At the beginning of his life nobody liked him for how he looked and talked. He had a very deep voice. He grew a beard because he thought his face didn't look good.

Abraham Lincoln was one of the few that didn't go to school much, only three years. Still he kept America united, by defeating the South in the Civil War. He also issued one of the best speeches ever, the Emancipation Proclamation, to stop slavery.

He had heroic bravery because he led the Union and defeated the Confederacy. He freed over 500,000 slaves by issuing the Emancipation Proclamation. Abraham Lincoln was kind, easy going and very honest. People said he never told a lie. He even got a nickname for it: Honest Abe.

Abraham Lincoln is important to me because he is the reason America is still united and if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have the same friends as we do today.
