Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th, 1809. His favorite things were school, writing, and reading. I know about Abraham Lincoln because I have read about him in books.

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. As a boy he helped his father with the farm they had. In 1816 a disease swept through the region, and Abraham's mother died. But he had no time to stop and feel sad, he and his father still had a farm to get up and running. He often cleared fields for other farmers. As a teenager he grew tall and skinny, he was nearly 6ft 4in. His sister Sarah died in childbirth. One year, he helped take a boat to New Orleans, it was there where he first saw slavery. He fought in the Black Hawk War. He also worked in a store, which is the reason he was given the nickname "Honest Abe". He was sworn in as president on March 4, 1861.

I think of him being special because he stopped what he saw in New Orleans. I think of Abraham Lincoln as a hero because he was very serious and patient in the act to free slaves. He was also very bold. He was a very good civil man, and sturdy. He was one of the few presidents assassinated while he was president. He was also very sure they should not remove 11 stars from the flag.

Reading about him has taught me that no matter how life steers you, you can do anything you want. I think that people can learn the importance that violence never solves anything. I appreciate Mr. Lincoln because he was a very good intelligent man. If Mr. Lincoln were alive today I would thank him for what he has shown me.

Mr. Lincoln was shot and killed on April 15th 1865 by John Wilkes Booth at Fords Theater in Washington D.C.
