Abraham Lincoln

by Gauge from Horicon

Many other people view Abraham Lincoln indifferent ways. I am one of the many who view him as a hero. He was a hero not only to our country, but to the slaves who were trapped into slavery in the South during the Civil War. Abe Lincoln was a very perseverant, brave, courageous, and friendly man.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th in a log cabin in Hardin, Kentucky (now Larue). His mother was Nancy Lincoln and his father was Thomas Lincoln. In 1816 Abe and his family moved to Indiana mostly because they didn’t like slavery and times were getting tough in Kentucky. They moved near Little Pigeon Creek or Perry, but today it is called Spencer. In 1818 Lincoln’s mother died and in 1819 his father remarried a Kentucky widow named Sarah Bush Johnston. In 1828 Abraham Lincoln made a flatboat trip to New Orleans. Also, in that same year his sister died giving birth to a child. Then, in 1830 the Lincolns left from Indiana to Illinois. In 1831 Lincoln made another flatboat trip to New Orleans and then traveled back to New Salem. He served in the Black Hawk war in 1832.

Abraham Lincoln ran for the Illinois Legislator in 1832 and didn’t win, but two years later he was elected in four terms of being a Whig. After that, Lincoln became a Lawyer in 1836 and in 1837 he moved to Springfield and was William H. Seward’s law partner. After being many people’s law partners he was elected U.S. House of Representatives in 1847 and he opposed the Mexican War. He ran for President in 1860 against William H. Seward. He had won the election and became president.

Abraham Lincoln was a hero in my eyes in many ways. He was a very courageous man because he persevered in releasing the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation. He did this to treat these people fairly even though he knew that it would wreck the South and part of his own country's economy. Also, because of his actions the country eventually became all united again. These actions all fit my definition of a hero, which is a man that does something courageous that could put himself at risk to help other people out. He fits in this definition because he released the slaves which his life got taken for it.

In conclusion, Abraham Lincoln was a hero in my eyes in many ways. Some ways were releasing the slaves and eventually he got the country reunited. Also, he is a hero because his life got taken from doing an action that would help the large amount of the population in the country. In all, Abraham Lincoln was a great American hero.
