"We have done so much - we'll get this done!" ( Lane ) The inspiring words of the inspirational hero, Angela Merkel, who is known for being the first female chancellor of Germany. Merkel was born on July 17, 1954 in Hamburg, Germany. In 1989 Merkel first started to get into democracy groups, while she was a research chemist. Later on she became more and more influential in politics and by 2005 was named the first female chancellor of Germany. Despite the thoughts of others Merkel had a drive to get what she wanted done. She didn't care about the stereotypes of women in her time. Angela Merkel, a chemist and democrat, can be referred to as a hero through her outspoken words and incredible ways of leading Germany.

Merkel's willingness to speak out for what she believes in, despite the thoughts of others, makes her brave. In times, it can be hard leading a country, but Merkel always knows what is right and springs into action in a time of need. "Merkel's unholy alliance with Erdogan, like her Tuesday announcement of a hard, new line on immigration and assimilation, may seem jarring to those who had begun to speak of the German chancellor as the last" ( Lane ). Although everyone expected for Merkel to be the last chancellor for not having a settlement with Erdogan, she addressed the issue and had it resolved, while ignoring the opinions of everyone. This makes Merkel brave because while it can be difficult to speak up in front of an audience about something controversial, she still goes out and speaks to resolve the problem. Merkel is also brave because she knows when a situation needs to be dealt with. For example, when she had to take action and call out Russia for cutting off gas supplies: "Though Merkel could be conciliatory, she could also be tough when the situation required it. In January of 2007, she called a press conference and sharply criticized Russia for cutting off gas supplies to Europe without consulting the EU" ("Angela Merkel." Gale). Although Merkel didn't need to call out Russia, she knew that there was a problem that needed to be dealt with. Merkel is brave because she has the willingness to speak out for what she believes in.

Merkel's thoughtfulness to always think about the people in her country, and what is best for them, makes her a strong, influential leader. At times, countries don't always get along with each other and have different ideas but Merkel has cleared a few things up: "In the last 25 years, she added, a stable and lasting good relationship to Russia has unfortunately not been achieved. Yet Russia is both an external border and neighbour of the EU. In the fight against international terrorism, at least, Russia and the EU have 'exactly the same interests,' underlined Merkel" ("WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE A BETTER WORLD." States News Service  ). Russia and the EU have not had a good relationship for awhile now, but because of Merkel they now share the same interests. This is a good leadership quality because if two countries are not getting along, in the long run that could possibly not end well. Not only does Merkel know what's best for her country, she also believes in it. "'Germany is a strong country,' she declared. 'The motive with which we approach these matters must be: We have done so much - we'll get this done!'" ( Lane ) Merkel believes that she can get what she wants to get done. This is important because if a leader is not positive then their country won't believe in their leader. Merkel is an amazing leader because she always knows what to do for her country in a problematic situation.

Angela Merkel is a hero because of her outspoken words and incredible ways of leading Germany. Merkel is brave, and speaks out for her country in the times that they need her. She is also an amazing leader, and always knows what is right and best for everyone in her country. Merkel is a true inspiration to many. She has done things that are unthinkable and always has a positive attitude. For example: "Angela Merkel became the first female chancellor in the history of modern Germany."  ( "Angela Merkel." Gale  ) This is inspiring to me because Merkel has proven that women are strong and can also do great things. In today's society, women still struggle for equality. It doesn't always seem as easy for a women to have a big leadership position than it is for a man. Merkel inspires and is relatable because she has proven to her country that a women can do a great job leading a country. Merkel believes that because of everything she has done and overcome, that she can overcome the next challenge and complete her next goal.
