Alan Turing

by Kenny from Liberty Township

Just think of how hard it would be to crack a code that is almost impossible and make the first computer when there is not a lot of technology. Alan Turing was one of the smartest people in his time. Alan Turing is my hero.

Alan Turing was born on June 23, 1912 in Maida Vale, London, United Kingdom. He was the last child born in his family. Throughout his childhood he was very inspired by Albert Einstein. He got a PhD at college and became a computer scientist.

Alan Turing had some rough struggles that he had to go through. He had a lot of fails while making his computer called the ACE and his code machine called The Bombe. Lots of people told him that going to public school was going to get him nowhere, if he wanted to be a computer scientist. Throughout his live, he was under a lot of stress and eventually committed suicide.

Alan Turing had very important accomplishments. He designed the first computer. So the computer you use every day might not exist if Alan Turing didn't do anything. He was awarded an OBE for his wartime services. He also built a machine called The Bombe, which played a big role in breaking the German "Enigma" code.

Alan Turing was quite a hero and had many heroic virtues. He showed perseverance because lots of people doubted him about cracking the Enigma code but he continued going. He showed determination because he was determined to build The Bombe and end World War II. He also had patriotism because he wanted to stop the Germans and save his country.

Alan Turing has a long lasting contribution to modern day society. He is important to me because he inspires me not to care what other people think and to not give up. Alan Turing once said, "We can only see a short distance ahead, but we can see plenty of what needs to be done." These are all reasons why Alan Turing is my hero.
