There are many people I look up to, or try to learn their traits. There are so many people with the talents I dream to have. If I could choose my hero though, without a doubt it would be my grandma Amy. She is creative, giving, and so much more! My grandma has always been a big person to look up to in my life. When I felt so alone; I knew just who to go to when I wanted to feel important. When I'm being treated unfair, grandma Amy is always the one to tell me it will eventually get better.
If anyone knows about life being unfair, it is definitely my grandma. In 2006 on October 10, my grandma lost her son Jeffrey Austin, in a car accident. Not there did he pass, but she made the decision to take him off the machine that kept him alive.
She knew it was for the best. She knew that even if there was a chance of him coming out of that coma, his life would be so miserable. And nobody, especially him, would want to live that way. Just as much for the people who would have to watch him live it!
One of the biggest reasons I look up to my grandma is how she turned that tragic event in her life, and she turned into a way to give back, even if she had almost nothing to give. Now every year she finds a a family that for some reason, can't afford a Christmas. She sends information on them to her friends and family, and we all give gifts to the family! She named this charity "Jeffrey's Tree". When I was little, life wasn't so easy. Or it wouldn't have been as easy without grandma Amy. She took me in when I was practically still a baby. She made my childhood so great, and even now, at the age of 14, she still plays a significant role in my life! Grandma Amy can put a smile on anyone's face. Even when a person's in a deep dark mood. She is always positive, even when you'd think it was impossible! One time I came to her about a mistake I knew my mom made, and she was there to remind me that everyone makes mistakes. And reminded me that my mom, in fact, was considered a human being.
Something I really respect about my grandma is how truthful she is. No matter the situation, or her wrongdoing, or even your mistakes, she will always tell you the truth. She is not the kind of person to tell you a lie because it sounds better. Nor is the the kind of person to tell you what you want to hear! When I grow up, I hope I have the same attitude that my grandma does. If I have ever heard the phrase "It's the right thing to do," it would be from her. My grandma gives as much as she can to people who need her help, because it's the right thing to do. She goes to church every Sunday, she supports her friends and family, and always has a hand open for reach because it is the right thing to do.
Without a doubt in my mind, Grandma Amy is my hero. Through all the tragic moments in her life, she can still manage to smile. She is positive, caring, truthful, and definitely a risk taker. One day, as a grandparent, or even a mom, I hope my children or grandchildren look at me the way Jeffrey and I look at her. She is my number one hero for sure!
