Sargent Alvin Cullum York

by John from Loveland

Who can act as a hero and what makes a hero can become questions that some ask. To me courage , sacrifice, and loyalty can make a hero. Alvin Cullum York acted as a good example. He showed courage, sacrifice, and loyalty in many ways.
First, Alvin York showed courage in the war and these three reasons say why. This hero had to have courage to take on 32 machine guns, killing at least 20 German soldiers and capturing 132 others, four of them had were officers, on October 8 1918. He also had to have courage when he did not want to fight against his Christian beliefs, until he found Matthew 5:9, in the bible, which says "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" He did not want to fight. Lastly York had to still have courage to fight knowing that he may not return to his country. Second, Sergeant York showed sacrifice in a couple of ways. He sacrificed 2 years away from his family. he prepared to sacrifice his life to protect his country, although he did live till 1964. Finally Alvin sacrificed money to build a school building to teach kids about the world that they can explore. Finally, Alvin showed loyalty to his family, his God, and his country. He supplied his brothers, sisters, and mom with food after his dad died. He also protected like his lord commanded him to. And also served his country instead of running from the war. Sergeant Alvin Cullum York, showed courage, sacrifice, and loyalty in several ways. This man qualifies as my hero because of his Godly heart. He was a man who did what was right, even when in danger.
