Austin DeHaven

by Tyler from Mission Viejo

"Keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up."

Austin DeHaven is a great kid that road races motorcycles. I first met Austin when I started racing motorcycles at the mini tracks, which are located mainly in California. He was very fast, won a lot of championships on the mini tracks, and was really nice. He always helped me get faster at the track by showing me lines and reference points. I am drawn to him as my hero because he always is really nice to me and very successful. He turned pro at 16, which is amazing. I would like to be able to emulate the aspects that he won a lot of championships and was really nice. It would also be amazing to turn pro.

Austin DeHaven is a junior in high school. He trains all the time by riding bicycles. When he rides his bike it is mainly to build up stamina for the long races he rides in. When you make it to AMA tour, you can get paid around 100,000 dollars a year including the money you win from races. At the World Superbike level you can get paid a million or so if you are one of the top riders. Once you get to MotoGP if you are winning championships a few years in a row you can get paid several million dollars. Most of the people racing at the professional level are between 16 and 30. The only problem with this career is that only a hundred riders or so can make it as a pro every year.
