Allen E. Iverson

by Omar from Mission Viejo, California

"It's unfair because the people booing, I believe, wouldn't want to have their child booed. Fans don't understand our lives and what we go through. They don't look at us as humans."

I first became aware of my hero while I was watching a Lakers game at my cousin's house. The Los Angeles Lakers were playing the Philadelphia 76ers. The Lakers were my favorite team and I was watching the game just for them. Then I saw Philadelphia’s point guard #3 Allen Iverson. I immediately fell in love with the way he played and controlled the basketball game. I like how he gets wherever he wants on the court with his strength and amazing speed.

Allen Iverson is a professional basketball player. He plays for the Denver Nuggets. In order to become a professional basketball player, you have to be great at the sport. NBA players get paid pretty well, especially Iverson, one of the best.

At Bethel High School, he led the school's gridiron football and basketball teams to state championships his junior year. He was offered a scholarship to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where in two years he averaged 23 points per game and won two Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year awards. Allen Iverson not only excelled in high school basketball but he was a tremendous football player as well. In college he stuck to basketball and made a great living for himself.

Because Allen Iverson is such a public figure a lot of what he does causes attention. That is a positive thing. He forms charities and helps out in his communities. With all the money he makes he isn’t greedy about it. He gives back not only with his wallet but with his own two hands. He helped out in the NBA cares by helping rebuild homes that were destroyed by hurricane Katrina.

My goals in high school are to do well in high school basketball and when there are scouts, to do my best. When I am in college I hope to play college ball, to do my best and hopefully get drafted to the pros. My lifetime goal is to play in the NBA. Playing in the NBA is my dream.
