A hero is somebody who is strong and brave. Also, he or she does not always think about himself or herself. A hero never gives up, no matter how hard it is. My hero is Abraham Lincoln.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Harden County, Kentucky. On November 4, 1843 he was married to Mary Todd. They had three children who lived to be older than babies. Ever since he could remember, he had been against slavery.

Abraham Lincoln ran for the legislature in Illinois. He became a leader of the legislature. Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer. He was the President during the American Civil War. He wrote the Gettysburg Address to state that all people are created equal. It is one of the most important speeches in America. Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth President of the United States. He helped free the slaves. He wrote the Emancipation Proclamation stating that all slaves were free. He was assassinated at the age of fifty-six in Ford's Theater, while he was attending the comedy, "Our American Cousin".

Abraham Lincoln is my hero, because he freed the slaves. He is my favorite President. I am thankful to him and all the other people who freed the slaves. Although he knew that he was putting himself in danger, he did what was right. That is why he is my hero.
