Although Albert Pujols lives as an iconic baseball player and athlete, to me he is much more. To me Albert Pujols is a role model and a hero. Pujols professes his faith in Jesus Christ strongly and openly. He stays humble through all of the pressures and demands of the media. His determination to play to the best of his ability inspires me to work hard at whatever I do. Albert Pujols’s work-ethic and attitude remind me that life might be filled with fame and glory, but living your life for Jesus beats anything else we could live for.
In winter of 1980, Albert Pujols was born into a poor family in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. From an early age he showed his passion for baseball, and his talent for playing it. Despite living in extreme poverty, Albert Pujols’s love for the game brought him to the United States of America when he was sixteen years old. His overall natural talent and hard work eventually pushed him into the minor leagues… but not for long. Soon he became the star of the St. Louis Cardinals. He became the National League Rookie of the Year in 2001, and the National League MVP in 2005, 2008, and 2009. His true dedication to baseball has made him one of the best athletes ever to play the game.
His perseverance to succeed in tough situations, his commitment to the game, and his humbleness through it all has made Albert Pujols my hero. I aspire to conduct myself like Pujols, not necessarily on the baseball diamond, but in all aspects of life. When things get tough, I am reminded of the conditions Albert Pujols grew up in, and how he fought through it. Even when things are going great, Pujols remains humble, and I realize that I should give the glory to God, not myself. His dedication to his team and to the sport of baseball pushes me to practice harder at the things that I love. The way Pujols lives his life inspires me to be a better person.
