Abraham Lincoln

My hero is Abraham Lincoln. He was a great person. He was born in Hodgenville, Hardin County in Kentucky. When he was a little boy, he mostly had to do chores all day long. He lived in a wood cabin that was very small and tight. While Abraham was living there in the tight cabin, he learned how to read, write and cipher. Many years later, Abraham Lincoln was voted President, right after James Buchanan.

The first reason that I think this president is heroic is that he freed the slaves. As president, he built the Republican Party into a strong national organization. On January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation that said he would free those slaves from the Confederacy.

The second reason that I think Abraham Lincoln is a hero is because he steered the Union to victory in the Civil War because he didn't believe in slavery. He also helped save the country from splitting apart. The Civil War ended on April 9, 1865. I think that he is a great hero to everyone!
