If you asked me what the word hero means to me, I would say that a hero is someone you can trust. A hero does not need to have super powers to help you. They just need to have love for you, and you need to have to have love for them. A hero can be someone younger or older than you. All that person needs is to be able to help you cheer up when you are feeling down and always have time for you. They can also teach you something new. Heroes are “doggone” good people.
As you probably have already discovered, my hero is my dog, Allie. She has definitely proved that she is trustworthy. She fought a ground rattler snake, and made sure the reptile's presence was known to us. Allie shows she does her job of protecting us.
You might be wondering how a dog can teach me something. Well, it's possible. Allie is able to help me learn to do something new, kind of like how I can teach her a new trick. Also, she is able to influence me to keep trying to do something that helps keep us both good at it. When I play with Allie, the first thing we do is race. Racing helps us both get our exercise and to get faster and stronger. Another thing that makes us stronger is wrestling with each other. Wrestling is also another way we play. When playing with an animal I play like that animal so that I can also learn something new about that animal.
Allie always has time for me, or anyone else in my family. The only things she likes to do are play with the family, get her belly rubbed, stay home with the family, sit with me on the outside couch, and take a nap in the sun with me. Allie also likes to eat, though. I have to stay outside with her so I can get the bowl before she eats it, too!
When my little sister, Jenny, gets upset she gets very loud. I don't like loud noises, so when Jen is yelling I go outside with Allie, and we have a little quiet time together. She loves it when I go outside to see her. When she hears the door open, she comes over to see if it is me. Then she follows me to the couch we have outside, and sits with me on it. I just sit with her and rub her, and she sits there and enjoys it. Her fur is soft, and it relaxes me when I rub it. We both get to enjoy something sitting there. Sooner or later Jenny calms down, and I can go back inside without my eardrums busting.
Allie and I have been friends ever since we met. We made a strong bond. We love each other. She always has time for me. I can definitely trust her, and she helps me to stay calm. She teaches me something new every day. All in all, Allie is a "doggone" good hero!
