Alma Navarro

by Juan from Mission

A hero to me is not a person who needs to have super powers to be a hero. A hero is someone who helps you or is always there for you when you need them the most.

Alma Navarro was born in Reynosa, Mexico in 1970. She was a very helpful child to my grandpa. Alma would like to play kickball, touch, and to play with her friends. The only things that made her happy were her friends, dad, and brothers since when she was little her mother left her family for another person. My grandpa was like both mom and dad. Since she was the oldest and her dad worked, she would be the one to make food for her brothers. They did not have much since my grandpa would get paid very little. Alma’s childhood was rough.

When my mom was young she lived in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. When she was older, she moved up north to live in Kenneth Square, Pennsylvania. She mentioned that it was one of the best places she ever lived . When her dad became sick, she had to move back to Mission, TX.

My mom’s important events are her 15TH birthday “Quinceañera”, the Baptism of her three children, and the day she got to see her favorite band Air Supply at the age of 12. At twelve, she also got to go to skating for the first time. Since my mom didn’t have much when she was younger, now anything she does is new and she enjoys it tremendously. She still remembers visiting the Twin Towers before they were attacked. That was her biggest dream. She also had a chance to go to the White house, Lincoln Memorial, and the US Capitol. She also loved going to Universal Studios this past summer!

I consider my mom my hero because she’s always there when I need her. Even though she only went up to 6th grade she still helps me with the homework I don’t understand. She always tells me to not give up in school, or my dreams. She also never gives up on me.

Even though my mom has a sister who always fights with her and tells her sons bad things about my mom, my mom loves all her family a lot. My mom had a hard life, but she never gave up. She loves us all and enjoys every minute of her life.
