Amy Lee was born on the 13th of December in 1981. She met co-founder Ben Moody (now he’s not in the band anymore) at a youth camp, while she was playing a Meatloaf cover on the piano. He was so stunned by her voice that he asked her to make a band with him, and she agreed. The band (Evanescence-vanishing like vapor) took shape around the 90’s, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Their song 'Understanding' was played a lot by the local radio station, so they became popular. But fame truly hit them when their song 'Bring me to life' was included in the Daredevil soundtrack. After that their debut album (Fallen) became platinum 6 times. They also won 2 Grammies in 2003: ‘Best new artist’ and ‘Best hard rock performance’ for Bring me to life.

This is what Evanescence (and Amy) have achieved so far. Now, the reasons I admire her are: Because in my opinion, she has the most beautiful voice ever. Because she and her band became famous without being promoted. Because she’s beautiful, but doesn’t look like the typical singer. Because her voice is so amazing that she got an offer to be in a band when she was just thirteen. Because of the beautiful, almost poetic way some of her lyrics sound, and the strong, emotional, scream-your-heart-out way others do. Because her songs express feelings in a really good way. Whisper, for example... ‘Don’t turn away/don’t give into the pain/don’t try to hide/though they’re screaming your name...’ Haven’t we all felt something similar to this at some point? Or ‘Look/here she comes now/bow down and stare in wonder/Oh how we love you/no flaws when you’re pretending...’ Jealousy. Towards all of the annoyingly perfect people out there. But in the end ‘It never was and never will be/you’re not real and you can’t see me/ and somehow now you’re everybody’s fooool...’ And My Immortal. In my opinion, it’s the most beautiful love song ever. And Bring me to life, My last breath, Missing...She has so many beautiful songs that it’s hard to quote them all. And one last reason why I admire her? Because it’s also my dream to be a singer, and if I ever make it, I’ll aspire to be as good as her.
