Marie Antoinette |
Marie Antoinette was born in Austria in 1755. She died in 1793. Originally named Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna, she was raised in the Austrian court with her many siblings. When she was 9 years old, her father died. her mother wore nothing but black for years to come.
Being the daughter of Maria Theresa of Habsurg, Empress of the Holy Roman Empire of the Germanic Nations and the late Emperor Francis of Lorraine, Marie's family was able to afford to educate their daughter. She had a tutor named Abbe de Vermond. Sadly, Marie was bad at reading and twice as bad at writing. She wasn't very graceful, which affected her dancing lessons, as well.
In 1770, Marie married the Dauphin of France, who in 1774 became King Louis XVI, while Marie became Queen. While Marie was Queen, France became the ally of the thirteen British Colonies, which would someday become America. Of course Marie, who was the one who persuaded her husband to declare them allies, only wanted to help the colonies because they were against England. She could care less about their independence. The alliance stopped abruptly in 1777, when America won the war. The alliance had been risky because it could have inspired the French people to have a revolt (which it did). My hero risked having a revolution that could have endangered her life and family because she was certain that England was the enemy.
Marie may not have cared about her people, she may have spent a ridiculous amount of money on fashion while they suffered in the streets, but in a way, she helped our country of America develop. Marie Antoinette was accused in 1793 of giving away military secrets and committing treason. She was executed, without proof of these charges, 10 months after her husband.
