King Ashoka

by Taben from Hillside

A person noted for feats of nobility and courage, sometimes making a sacrifice of one's own body, is what I consider a hero. I say that King Ashoka is a hero because he put himself on the line of duty to serve as a warrior for his country. He also put himself in great danger by spreading the Buddhist religion to nonbelievers across lands and territories that were totally against his ways. I picked King Ashoka because when I think of him I think about all soldiers that put themselves in the line of duty to change the world or make an impact in the world.

King Ashoka was born 304BC to an aunt or relative who took care of him. His aunt or relative was part of the Mauryan Dynasty. King Ashoka changed the world by introducing a new type of religion to people great distances away from him. He also made himself a great example of how a Buddhist should be. King Ashoka was home schooled to the best of the teachers back then because he was part of the Mauryan Dynasty. His aunt and grandpa took care of him as a child. As King Ashoka grew up he started to take care of himself at the age 13. King Ashoka had no brothers or sisters. King Ashoka also stretched the Indian empire.

After a period of eight years of being king, King Ashoka decided to lead his army into battle. He didn't only send his army into battle but he sent himself into battle, and fought to the end. He watched as he saw numerous corpses lie dead on the battlefield. He couldn't believe his eyes or his actions. He felt very, very sick inside. He saw what he had done and changed his ways to Buddhism. Unfortunately, a few years later King Ashoka died.

King Ashoka didn't win many awards at all. Back then titles were more given then awards. King Ashoka was awarded the title of Ashoka the Great. Along with the title Ashoka the Great, he also is well known for his smartness when it came to battle. He was also well known for the great leadership he had over his country.

King Ashoka died 232B.C. as a well honored man. He is well known for his great courageous acts. King Ashoka is a very well respected man for all he has done. King Ashoka was a man who saw his downfalls and turned his act around. King Ashoka has done things you would never imagine could be done, that's why he is a man of his country and many other countries.
