Billy Graham

That is the answer to the question, "Why did you become a pastor?" That is what many people often ask Billy Graham when they get the chance to see him. Born on November 7, 1918 in South Carolina, Mr. Graham had never known that he was destined by God's appointed time to become a pastor. That was not to be known until he turned 16. When he did turn 16 he made a covenant with God to live the way God had chosen for him. It all happened in 1934 in Charlotte, North Carolina when an evangelist, Mordecai Ham, made a visit to that place for a revival meeting. That day and month changed Billy Graham's life forever.

Some of Billy Graham's works include The Answer to Loneliness, Are you getting what you what? The Hope of Eternal Life, You can know the Christ of Christmas. The Door is Still Open, and The Suffering Saviour . Billy Graham has been around the world to places like Eastern Europe, Guatemala, Argentina, Peru, India, and Manila. Everywhere he goes he leads thousands and hundreds of people to make a personal decision to live for Christ, which is the purpose of his ministry. Billy Graham has preached to over millions of people wherever he goes. People have heard his word in person, through live radio, cassettes, television, computers, and films. His messages are more heard during his crusades which run for 3 or 4 weeks. Some even extend to 12 or 16 weeks. The BGEA (Billy Graham Evangelist Association) was founded by Billy Graham to conduct his ministry. Some of his works include: "Decision" magazine, Billy Graham crusades, and a radio program called "Hour of Decision."

Billy Graham married Ruth McCue Bell in 1943. Mrs. Graham is the daughter of a missionary surgeon and spent 17 years of her life in China. Mr. Graham was in Illinois when he proposed. He and his wife both have 3 daughters, 2 sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of their sons, Franklin Graham is beginning to follow in his father's footsteps. He has already started by having the Franklin Graham Festivals in different part of the world. Anne Graham Lotz is the founder and president of Angel ministries. She is an author and two of her books are Just give me Jesus and I saw the Lord .

Billy Graham has been invited to the White House by some Presidents. One of them is Ronald Reagan and he received the Ronald Reagan Presidential Freedom award. Mr. Graham has been in the ministry for over 60 years and doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon. He lives in western North Carolina with his family and has a big ministry there.

So to sum it all up, I choose Billy Graham for my hero because he helps you to figure out how to get a personal relationship with the Lord. He also helps you to look deep inside yourself and figure out what you are meant to do for the Lord.
