Billie Joe Armstrong

My idea of a hero is someone who helps people with their problems even if they have a lot going on in their own lives. My hero, Billie Joe Armstrong, is a punk rock star who could be spending time playing with his band or with his family. He chooses to work with organizations like Habitat for Humanity. After Hurricane Katrina, he and his wife went to bring supplies and to help the people of New Orleans rebuild their homes. Billie Joe seems like a person who cares about what is happening in the world.

Billie Joe’s bands, Green Day, got their debut album released in 1990 and were instantly successful. They have been playing together for 22 years all over the world and have sold hundreds of millions of copies of their music. Their music can best be described as punk pop and can be heard on both heavy metal and easy listening radio stations. Green Day’s music can be enjoyed by just about anyone.

It is his work with Habitat for Humanity that makes me consider Billie Joe Armstrong a hero. In addition to Armstrong's recent volunteer work, Green Day also collaborated with fellow band U2 on "The Saints Are Rising". The Saints Are Rising proceeds went directly to Music Rising- an organization that helped in replacing musical equipment lost in Hurricane Katrina.

In conclusion, Billie Joe Armstrong is a hero because he finds time to help those in need even though he has a very busy musical career and problems of his own. I think his music even helps many different aged people deal with their problems. His music and personality have made me more enthusiastic about playing the guitar and helping people.
