A hero is somebody who is inspirational, kind, and isn’t afraid to stand up for what they believe. These characteristics definitely describe my hero, Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan is inspirational because in the 60s he made his thoughts, and many others, on the Vietnam War clear through his songs. He is kind because he cared very much about the people dying in the war, he stood up for his beliefs in his numerous protest songs.
Bob Dylan was born in Duluth, Minnesota as Robert Allan Zimmerman. He later changed his last name to Dylan, after his favorite poet Dylan Thomas. In high-school he was influenced by artists such as Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and others. They were one of the main reasons that he decided to become a musician.
Dylan is heroic because he always stands up for what he thinks and believes. He usually did this through his music. In the sixties he wrote quite a few protest songs against the war, a good example of this is his song “Blowin’ in the Wind: in which he says “how many deaths will it take ‘till he knows that too many people have died?” referring to the Vietnam war. He also stood up for the less fortunate people in America, people who couldn’t stand up for themselves. He also stood up for his belief that people should be themselves and not try to follow others, in the song “Subterranean Homesick Blues” he said “ Don’t follow leaders”
He was inspirational in his lyrics. Just about every one of his songs had a very important message more often than not, about politics. During the Vietnam War many Americans were angry about the way the war was going and the state of the country, Bob Dylan expressed not only his own thoughts, but also the thoughts of many rebellious Americans at the time, through his songs. He also showed other musicians that is was okay to stand up against the government, and to make your voice heard.
Bob Dylan was also a very kind person, who cared a lot about other people. He, obviously, was very upset about the number of the innocent lives being lost overseas, in Vietnam in the 60s. He was also made it very clear that he was incredibly concerned about the way some people, below the poverty line, were living.
