Benjamin Franklin was a famous scientist, inventor, statesman, printer, philosopher, musician, and economist. He lived from 1706-1790. He lived in several places including Boston, Massachusetts, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Benjamin Franklin is my hero because he was a genius and he invented many things that jumped human technology far ahead. His father was Josiah Franklin, a soap maker. His mother was Abiah Folger, the second wife of Josiah. He was apprenticed to his brother as a printer. Ben was the 10th son and 15th child of a family of seventeen kids. Ben wanted to write for his brother’s paper but never would have been allowed. He put letters from a name Silence Dogood that gave news and advice for the paper. Later on in his life, Ben wrote Poor Richard’s Almanac and the Pennsylvania Gazette. He wrote his autobiography entitled "Memoires De La Vie Privee."
Ben was a big part of the American Revolution. He refused the position of colonel in the militia and instead became a common soldier. Ben was the unofficial ambassador to Europe and was a very good diplomat that persuaded the French to join the war alone with many other countries. . Benjamin Franklin traveled to many including France. He made eight voyages across the Atlantic Ocean.
He discovered the gulf stream, whirlwinds, and the electrostatic machine. Ben invented bifocals, lightning rod, Glass Armonica, library chair, swim fins, the long reach device, Franklin Stove, catheter, and Daylight Savings Time. He had little formal education. He observed vaccination, common cold, fresh air baths, colored cloth, and volcanoes, weather, Franklin Bells, and airmail via balloon. Ben also invented the iron stove to warm people’s homes and an odometer. Ben was the one who invented a system for mail. Ben invented the swimming fins. In 1731 he founded the first public library. He also made the First City hospital and university of Pennsylvania. Ben has influenced American society in many ways. Ben died on April 17, 1790.
