Statue of Franklin |
For "my hero" project I picked a man who was known for many accomplishments. Not only was he a patriot, but also a scientist. Benjamin Franklin has had a vast amount of accomplishments, many of those things are still a major part of society today such as electricity for example. So therefore that is why I chose him for this project.
Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706. Josiah Franklin, his father was a maker of candles and soap, whose second wife, Abiah Folger, was Benjamin's mother. Josiah's marriages gave him 17 children; Benjamin was the fifteenth child and youngest boy or the lot. Josiah wanted Ben to attend school with the clergy but only had enough money to send him to school for two years. Ben went to Boston Latin School and didn't graduate. He later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, were he worked in several printer shops around town. Benjamin Franklin was an amazing inventor; among his many creations were the lightning rod, the glass harmonica, the Franklin stove, bifocal glasses, many are still in use today. Franklin never patented any of his inventions.

Benjamin Franklin |
"In December 1776, Franklin was sent to France as commissioner for the United States, and he remained there until 1785. On November 18th 1785, Franklin was unanimously elected the sixth President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania." Franklin held office longer than any other, he held office for three years. Franklin died on April 17, 1790, at age 84. His funeral was attended by approximately 20,000 people.
Benjamin Franklin lived from 1706 to 1776, and in that lifetime he made a legacy known and admired by many. He has made a huge difference in my life today and not only me but so many others too. without his invention of the bifocal glasses I would have a hard time typing right now. Speaking of typing it would also be hard to type this up for my Science teacher without electricity to run my computer. Franklin has had so many accomplishments in which we still get benefits from today, I can't even name all of them. That is why I chose to do my project on Benjamin Franklin.
"As we enjoy great advantages from the inventions of others, we should be glad of an opportunity to serve others by any invention of ours; and this we should do freely and generously."(Benjamin Franklin)
