Benjamin Franklin once said, "Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing". He spent much of his life dedicated to doing both of these. Known as one of the Founding Fathers of our country, Ben was not content to stop there. Franklin became a hero to many by dedicating his life to inventing products that have forever changed that way we live.

Benjamin Franklin invented things because he believed that people could benefit from his innovations. He invented bifocals because he had vision problems. He wanted to prove a point about electricity, so he used his key and his kite to help figured out how to control electricity. Franklin possessed many outstanding characteristics that made him an accomplished inventor.

When most people think of Benjamin Franklin being a hero, they generally associate him with the Declaration of Independence or the hundred dollar bill. However, Ben Franklin is a hero to many because of his inventions. In a time when our young country was developing, Benjamin Franklin became a world famous inventor. He was famous for waking up early and working endless hours to invent things to improve the lives of many people. However, not all of Franklin's inventions were successful, including an alphabet that eliminated the letters C, J, Q, W, X and Y. As a result, Franklin once said, "Do not fear mistakes. You will know failure. Continue to reach out" (Benjamin Franklin). Franklin's failures did not stop him from future inventions. His determination was best witnessed with the invention of the lightning rod. After years of attempting to prove that lightning was electricity, he risked his life with a key and a kite. That experiment paved the way for the creation of the lightning rod which has become important in saving many buildings and homes. This evidence explains Franklin's quote, "Energy and persistence conquer all things" (Benjamin Franklin). Ben Franklin often exhibited heroic characteristics with his determination and perseverance to succeed.

Franklin's inventions have had several long-term effects on society. Bifocals have helped millions of people with vision problems to see more clearly. The Franklin Stove cooks food more efficiently. The lightning rod helps buildings and homes from burning down. All three of these inventions have helped benefit people's lives.

Benjamin Franklin was a very accomplished political leader and businessman. He devoted his life to helping the common people through his many inventions that have had long lasting effects on the world. Benjamin Franklin is not only a hero, but also one of the best inventors of all time.
