"William" Bill Gates is the man who shaped the modern age creating the technology that advanced the human species to a new and innovative way of life and help the smaller countries flourish with philanthropic actions and his funding to eradicate Polio. When Bill was a young boy, he started his learning of computer programing which would then lead him to be one of the most famed entrepreneurs ever known to this world. Bill was born on October 28th 1955 in Seattle, Washington. "Bill Gates began to show an interest in computer programming at age 13." (Television LLC. Par.1) Years later, Bill dropped out of Harvard and started working with his friend Paul Allen on what is now known as Microsoft. As stated by Bill's bio on biography.com, "Through technological innovation, keen business strategy and aggressive business tactics, he and partner Paul Allen built the world's largest software business, Microsoft." (Television LLC. Par.1) When the Polio virus was at an aggressive state on the other side of the globe, Bill made a 25 million dollar agreement to purchase over 100 million doses of an oral vaccine for polio.

After Bill Gates had become the richest man in the world, he didn't fall to the greed that may come with the insane amount of money Microsoft had accumulated, but shared it with those in need of it. When the Nigerian Government was in debt to the World Bank for the vaccines that were purchased during the Poliovirus outbreak, Bill Gates stepped up to the plate and paid off a large sum of their debt for the continuation of the development and distribution of the vaccine to progress further. "The Gates Foundation also finalized a $25 million agreement with the World Bank to support the purchase of more than 100 million doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV) in Nigeria. The agreement stipulates the Gates Foundation will "buy down" a World Bank loan to the Nigerian government to support polio eradication efforts." (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Par. 4.) If the Nigerians did not receive this support from Bill Gates, the amount of deaths by polio would have risen instead of decreasing, leading to the possibility of the downfall of Nigeria. The downfall of Nigeria would not only be the end of a country, but a sign that not everyone should be alone but that we as the human species can prevail together to survive and achieve great things.

The people of Nigeria can now thank Bill Gates for his contributions due to their amount of improvement such as increase in population, money, resources and life expectancy by nearly 5 years since the Polio crisis. Nigeria wasn't the only country affected by Polio. Other countries were plagued by this virus such as India and other countries beside Nigeria in Africa. "Including this new agreement, the Gates Foundation has committed more than $700 million to polio eradication efforts worldwide. The foundation is actively working with development partners to meet the program's ongoing financial requirements." (Bill and Melinda Gates foundation Par.5) The countries that were affected by the virus when it was at its prime have been eased and now face their own problems that are non disease related. The only two countries where Polio has not been eradicated from are Afghanistan and Pakistan under the conditions that they are war-zones controlled by terrorist organizations such as Isis and Al Qaeda. Polio has slowly been dying out because of the many charities that funded its eradication during its outbreaks in Africa and the middle east but the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has led the charge against this horrid disease and saved many lives from its relentless maw of paralysis and despair. Bill as a human being is a hero to the victims and people of the southern east as he is the man who guided and continues to guide them through the outbreaks and Polio's presence among them.

After Polio had left its mark on the world and been almost eradicated, the Gates Foundation gazed upon the threat of Aids (Acquired Immunodeficiency virus) and HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) As HIV and AIDS had become a problem, people got frightened at first because no one knew what the two were and it was killing people left and right. Bill knew that it was a grave problem because of how traumatizing it was, so he started funding research on it to see if there could be a cure for it. "Because our resources represent only a small portion of worldwide funding to combat HIV, we concentrate on areas where existing funds are insufficient, our support can have potentially catalytic impact, and we can assume risks that others may not be able to." (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.) The foundation's efforts to help the people of these sub-Saharan people have shown that Bill has put his blood, sweat and tears into helping the people of this world and making it a more suitable place for us as humans to live. When these people receive the vaccinations and medications needed to treat them of their disease, they find hope in the world that they couldn't when they had to worry about rotting away from disease and such. Some of the people that are affected by the virus have a choice if they take it or not. These people end up quitting their treatment because it costs more and can be easily forgotten, leading it to be easy to stop. "HIV treatment programs are often expensive and inflexible, leading many individuals living with HIV to discontinue the treatment they need. We support partners who are working to simplify the delivery of HIV treatment and introduce models of care that are more tailored to the needs of particular populations and their circumstances." (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) As the people start having trouble with the medication they are meant to receive, Gates has been organizing more resources and finding new ways to make the medications and vaccines more affordable and available for the people who can't pay for it themselves. This is truly an effort that a hero such as Bill Gates would make as it would show that he is selfless and wants the world to be a healthier place. Bill shows his true philanthropy within as he continuously strives to make the victims of the disease able to live a normal life. The vast amount of support to AIDS/HIV research can be given credit to Bill Gates for donating millions of dollars into the interest of the victims of these horrible diseases.

As the man who made a huge blow to the Polio Virus and its spread across the east, and still makes great efforts to study and research the immunodeficiency viruses that plague our world, Bill Gates is one of the most charitable and Philanthropic heroes to ever live on this planet. Bill was the man who sent over the most non-government funds to the Poliovirus eradication and the man who continuously donates to foundations researching two of the most crippling diseases known to man. Bill has inspired many people over the years with his ability to make innovative technology and help the people of his planet. When he sent over money for the Polio vaccines to the east (that would end up saving millions of lives), it gave hope and inspired the people of those countries to jump in and help each other with the resources bestowed upon them. As the efforts for making the cure for AIDS and HIV have continued, it gives the victims hope and the will to live on. Bill "William" Henry Gates the 3rd is the man we know as the creator and founder of Microsoft, but to the Victims and the Diseased, he is a man who creates hope. Works Cited A&E Television LLC.
