Bethany Hamilton

"I had no warning at all, not even the slightest hint of danger, that's all it took: a split second. I felt a lot of pressure and a couple of lightning fast tugs. Then I watched in shock as the water around me turned bright red... My left arm was gone." Bethany Hamilton had to be determined and get back on board, even when everything told her she couldn't. Bethany Melanie Hamilton was born in Kauai, Hawaii February 8, 1990. Her parents are Tom and Cheri; she has two brothers Noah and Timothy. On October 31, 2003 their lives changed when Bethany was attacked by a 15 foot tiger shark, and lost 60% of her blood. During the incident many people thought she would never surf again.

I chose Bethany as my hero, because she had determination. After Bethany lost her arm, surfing was different. Everything she knew was gone. Every day Bethany had the determination to try again, to get better. She had to start new, as if she had never surfed before. Bethany Hamilton worked so hard that she got good enough to surf in competition, and then professionally. Every time she fell she got back up. Even when it seemed Impossible she kept going.

Bethany Hamilton also had incredible bravery. Her whole life had changed. She had faith in God that he knew what he was doing, that this was his plan for her. Bethany Hamilton also had to face people. Whenever she went out people would stare at her. However, she kept going, and didn't let it bother her. When Bethany's arm was gone, she went through so much drama. She was brave enough to go and try again, with the chance of it happening to her again.

Bethany Hamilton has inspired tons of people, through her Bravery, Courage, and Determination. With all of that hard work it got her pretty far. Her 1st race back from the accident she one 1st place in a state competition, soon after she won her 1st national title. 2004, she won 2nd in the Billabong Championship. Last, in 2011, she was awarded for the most inspiring person. Although, the trophies are good, Bethany says that her faith in God is what helped her the most.

Bethany Hamilton, went through something life changing, and in the process changed the lives of others too. God can change our lives in so many ways. Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord "plans to prosper you, not to harm you, to give you hope, and a future." Bethany Hamilton has changed my life and many others. She taught me that I can make a difference in the world, and how much God has changed my life.
