One of Mexico’s hero is Benito Juarez. Benito Juarez is from Oaxaca. His life was not very easy because he just was a Zapotec Indian. Also he did not have a good education because his father was dead. But he tried to be a better man, and that’s why he went to Mexico City to have a good education and learn how to read and write.
He was hardworking and respected. Benito became one of Oaxaca’s leading lawyers and federal court judge. His work of lawyer was very good, but he wished to be a president. In 1860 he was elected as president. He liked to be a president of Mexico because he loved to help the people who needed help. He also helped children who didn’t have school.
That’s why in his first year as president he began to solve problems for his country. He also believed that the country was with him and in all the things that he did they were on his side.
In his second term he enforced the constitution which gave people freedom of speech. A lot of people in Mexico were happy about Benito. He helped a lot of people and that’s why in Oaxaca, they have a statue of him and also in La Plaza de las America in Chicago. He died on March 21, 1872.
In March 16 people celebrate that day to remember him. In Mexico they say El Grito and they have food, music and they dance.
He is my hero because he loved Mexican people and worked for Mexican freedom of speech. Also he made new schools for poor children that did not have school.
