Brent King

by Julia Thomas

"Every fear that you could ever think of gripped me". Brent King the father of Chelsea King was born on July 31st 1962. He is 50 years old right now. He was born in San Diego, California. He grew up locally in San Diego and Huntington Beach. Mr. King went to Long Beach State and majored in economics. For 20 years he worked for a huge bank called World Savings. Throughout his life he lived in Southern California, Northern California, Connecticut, and Chicago. One day in March of 2010 Mr. King's life changed greatly. That day was the day his daughter was killed. He wanted to change the USA in a way where everyone could feel safe wherever and whenever you would do something or go anywhere. That change is called Chelsea's Law. The King family and Chelsea's Light Foundation came up with this law. "California legislation ensures that the state does everything it can to keep sex offenders who target children from engaging in even more atrocious crimes upon release, and that those who commit the worst violent sexual crimes against children are put away for life"(CLF). "9.3 million Kids are safer from Chelsea's law but 78 million more kids in America the land of the free that need our help that need your help." He shows being a hero in many different ways. Mr. King shows his humbleness by putting other people before him. He shows determination when he spreads Chelsea's law across the USA. He shows the positive side of everything because he never thinks of the bad things in life.

Mr. King's determination helped him be successful for spreading Chelsea's law. Mr. Kings determination shows when he says "9.3 million kids are safer from Chelsea's law but there are 78 million more kids in America the land of the free that need our help, that need your help"(CLF). He is very determined to spread Chelsea's law throughout America and even the world to make kids that is fourteen years old or younger feel safer and be safer."Chelsea knew that great things are not accomplished without great effort, great passion and great commitment. "Go big or go home" attitude guided her to never settle for less than the optimum, or give up when the challenge appeared to have been too great. To "go big or go home" is to honor our daughter's life on the scale in which she lived it and to empower our next generation of leaders to do the same" (CLF). He carries this "Go big or go home" with him now and that's how he has the determination to do all these truly things for America. He shows determination as he spread Chelsea's Law across the USA.

His mission "is to unite and lead people who are passionate about protecting children and inspiring positive change in their communities" (CLF). This shows him being humble because he is caring about protecting the kids and adults of the future generation and reaching out and helping. His vision is "to uphold the inherent right to experience the innocence and joy of childhood, and to unleash the potential of an engaged community" (CLF). His vision shows humbleness because he is caring more for others than for himself. He wants the community and all the kids in it feel like they can be free and have no worries. His enthusiasm leads to how.

He's also heroic because he is a very positive man; he taught his daughter to be positive too. "Chelsea's indomitable spirit showed us you can always exceed your own expectations and those of others if you truly believe in yourself. She always encouraged people to live to their fullest potential, to never underestimate the power of one voice reaching out to many and to never underestimate the amount of courage inside all of us"(CLF). He taught her that so that she can make one day a difference of people like he is now. His possessiveness can spread and that can make LOTS of other people positive and that can make the world more peaceful. "It never crossed my mind that a known sexual predator living 8 miles from our house did this..EVER" (CLF). Even though this horrible thing happened to his daughter, he tries to keep a positive attitude instead of thinking the world is a bad place. This shows his positives because he never thinks of the bad in life only the positive things.

"Join us in protecting our children, if not our children then whom?"(CLF). ." Mr. King shows his humility by putting other people before him. He shows determination when he spreads Chelsea's Law across the USA. He shows a positive attitude because he never thinks of the bad things in life. After a visit to a couple of local high schools, one student, Parker Bugg, was inspired by King to action himself. Bugg has launched a fundraiser he calls "Strikeout sex offenders" (pomerado new group B-1) Bugg is asking members of the community to donate.
