I am sure you all familiar with the name Barack Hussein Obama II, but how familiar? Yes, of course, he is our current president but there are many other things that make him much more than that. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4th, 1961. His parents got a divorce a few years after that. His dad moved to Kenya and only saw his son once more before dying in a car crash. In 1995, Obama’s mom died from ovarian cancer, both parents not knowing some of the greatest barriers that their son has broken.

Now, you must ask, why do I consider Obama a hero? Not only is he attempting to fix the problems that have been created, but he has also shown many people of different cultures and races that they have just as much potential as anyone else. During the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack had to overcome the harsh things said by the media and citizens of the United States. He was criticized many times because of his political views, religious issues, and his past. These are just a few barriers Obama had to overcome before he was elected the president of the United States.

Even today, race is still an issue for some. There are still a few people out there who believe white people should always have the power. Although, with Obama becoming president, I believe this generation of people can all move past that and it will no longer be an issue. Obama opened a lot of eyes and has encouraged many people not to let their cultural or racial differences hold them back.

Obama was also not raised in a religious household. His Dad was a former Muslim but pronounced himself as an atheist and his mother was not raised to be religious. Many Christian Americans had a problem with this and thought that someone of a religious background should be the president. This was another obstacle that Obama had to overcome and teach people that, although he is a Christian now, he didn’t need to grow up a Christian to make a change in this country.

Obama is a strong leader and has changed the views of many people in different ways. I consider Barack Obama one of my heroes because of his strength to overcome everything and also his motivation to keep fighting. I think back to all the obstacles that have held me back and now I can only try to fight as hard as Barack Obama, a hero and a president. His presidency campaign was to be described as “the steady march of seemingly impossible accomplishments,” by Time magazine. He is a hero to everyone who decided to march in the back of him.
